The Cloud Concept
Imagine standing on a 1 inch piece of wood or metal. Could you stay balanced? How long would it take for your feet, legs and back to hurt? Your feet would probably have a tendency to slip...
With conventional stirrups this is essentially what happens.
Now think about a 5 inch platform. It only makes sense! The larger surface area gives you infinitely better balance. There is no damaging pressure to your foot.
Now, add the best closed cell foam rubber you can find and voila!
Extreme Comfort. Simple...
What makes us so Special
Cloud Stirrups were designed by a long-distance rider. Over the years he rode in many types of stirrups but he was never comfortable. After a few hours in the saddle, his feet would begin to burn, his toes would become numb and his back would become sore. He knew there had to be a better way.
Every evening after returning home from his regular job in manufacturing and design, he would go into his workshop. He would eventually build and test many different stirrup designs. Friends were recruited to try them and give their comments and suggestions - FINALLY, the Cloud was born!
In the beginning, he had no intention to manufacture or market them. However, at every long distance competition people would examine the stirrups and inquire how they could obtain a pair. He gave into peoples' requests and made a few pairs... Now 6 years later, riders are enjoying Clouds throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and the Middle East. Clouds are continuing to make inroads into other countries and other riding disciplines. Therapeutic Riding Programs have started using them for the stability and safety they offer.
Only the very best materials are used in the construction of Cloud Stirrups (see Materials).
The Cloud's unique design includes;
Rubber
We use two types of rubber for our pad:
We only produce stirrups that are leather covered. We believe leather covering not only produces a better looking stirrup but also provides a lot of benefits. It is much more comfortable for horse and rider, and safer. Bare aluminum will become scratched, which can result in sharp edges. We use a Polyurethane coated Chrome dyed leather 7-8 oz, which is available in tan , dark brown, black and burgundy. This leather is highly resistant to scratches and moisture. Since the leather is sealed, it does not have to be oiled. The stirrups can be cleaned by simply washing them in water. Aluminum
We use a one-piece aluminum design to form the body of our stirrups. This superior grade of aluminum will not loose its shape once it is pressed. The base of the stirrup measures 5 inches long X 5 1/2 wide.
Hardware
The assembly which is used at the top of the stirrup to connect to the leather or fender is exceptionally strong. We use a stainless steel sleeve over a 3/8 inch threaded steel rod, this is capped off at either end with stainless steel acorn nuts. After the stirrup has been used a few times the stainless steel sleeve starts to rotate on the threaded rod acting like a bearing. This allows the stirrup to move independently of the fender or leather.
Weight
A pair of Cloud Stirrups weigh approximately 3.3 pounds or 1.5 kgs
There are other cages on the market but none like this...this one adjusts to YOUR foot size!
We craft the cage from the same quality leather as the stirrups. It is available in tan, dark brown, black and burgundy. Multi-position settings allow you to adjust the cage to any shoe or boot size (it also can be removed for easy cleaning). Stainless steel hardware ensures its durability and resilience. Add $100 for saftey cages.

The Cloud's unique design includes;
- The largest platform of any stirrup on the market -5 inches long X 5 1/2 inches wide, giving the rider more weight distribution and better balance.
- Stainless Steel Bearing Action Assembly which allows the stirrup to move independently of the leather or fender.
- Polyurethane Coated Chrome Dyed Leather will not absorb moisture and is very scratch resistant. The leather does not require oiling. The stirrup can be cleaned with water.
- Closed Cell Foam Rubber 3/4 inch of pure comfort. Laminated with a natural ribbed-rubber. It will not become slippery when wet and does not wear out. Due to the foam's construction, you are actually suspended on a cushion of air.
- Optional Safety Cage, another innovative idea! The Cage is crafted from the same leather as the stirrups. It is adjustable to your foot size and can be removed for easy cleaning.
- And finally, what really sets us apart is that Cloud Stirrups are handcrafted and custom made to fit any leather or fender width, perfectly. This is so essential to a stirrups balance.
We are so confident that you will also find Cloud Stirrups to be "special" that we offer an unconditional 30-day money-back guarantee.
Rubber
We use two types of rubber for our pad:
- The foam rubber which we use is constructed with closed cells. Each cell encapsulates a bubble of air. Due to this, the foam will not collapse over time. It is also the reason the foam feels different than other foams, you are actually suspended on a cushion of air. If you were to remove the foam, place it in water and squeeze, it would not absorb any moisture.
- The foam is laminated with a natural ribbed rubber. This rubber is more commonly used in wet industrial applications where it has to withstand the traffic of heavy equipment. It will not become slippery when wet and does not wear out.
